The Land of Giants! Recap of the First 2 weeks of the 2021 Season Opener at ATA Lodge on the Alagnak Wild and Scenic River

After a year of uncertainty due to Covid, we are sure glad to be "back at it" up here at ATA Lodge, on the Wild Alagnak River! June 8th is always the season opener up here, and the trout have not seen a fly in the 8 months since we left last September!  So we are always excited to get back on the water and wet a fly.    In fact, June may well be my personal favorite time to be on the river.  The salmon haven't arrived yet.  There aren't many guests that come up for just the trout fishing.  We've been missing the beauty of the river and area and are so happy to look over the meadow...

Fishing Report for ATA Lodge - We are Open for Business for the 2020 Season - Alagnak River, Bristol Bay, Alaska

We have had a late start due to Covid19, but we are happy to announce that we are Open for Business As Not So Usual!   And what a great time to be here at ATA Lodge on the Alagnak Wild River!! Normally we would have an opening week starting June 8th with a lodge full of guests here for the great trout fishing that we have at the beginning of the season before the salmon start to arrive.  But this year we were forced to close for the whole month of June because of complications related to the Covid19 pandemic.   What that meant for us, is that our staff got to do a little fishing between opening up projects and...

2019 End of Season Report from ATA Lodge on the Fabled Alagnak Wild River of Bristol Bay, Alaska

Another Great Season in the Books at ATA Lodge!  After browsing through this blog post, I think that you will have to admit that The Alagnak Wild River is a pretty photogenic location.  We certainly feel privileged to be able to call it "home" for almost 5 months every year! Conditions this season were a bit different than what we have come to expect out here in Bristol Bay.  After a very mild winter with little snowpack on the mountains, we went on to experience an unprecedented heatwave and drought throughout the entire season.  The snow that was on the mountains in spring had almost totally melted off by early July as the photo above shows.  Normally we would have prolonged...
